For the first time, the Resolute Cup, which is a premier keelboat competition, is all set to expand way more than the boundaries of the United States this September. Besides, many Olympic sailors, there have been many one-design world champions produced by the Junior Sailing Program. Also, some of the college sailors are outstanding in their sailing skills. The sailors from different yacht clubs will compete with each other and this is the right forum where sailors can definitely test themselves.
The Resolute Cup has created its identity which is a class apart compared to other competitions. In 2010, it was known by the name Qualifying Series for Rolex. Now it’s being organized every year in Newport, RI at NYYC Harbour Court. The competition brings together many best amateur sailors across the United States and each of them represents their home yacht club. In 2018, there are 28 teams from 3 major coastlines of the United States. In addition to this, there are inland lakes which will join in September for one design race in the fleet of the same Sonar keelboats by the club. The winning team will definitely receive an invitation for the premier amateur big-boat competition.
The Club Nautico de San Juan is one of the best yacht clubs which would sail in the Resolute Cup. It is happening for the first time and the list includes Houston Yacht Club, Sachem’s Head Yacht Club and Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club. The Resolute Cup was not kind enough for the first time sailors, but in no time it will be apparent on the way rookie clubs assess as to what was done by the 24 teams before gaining experience at Resolute Cup. The finale of the regatta would soon be telecasted through Facebook. It would be an interesting competition to see so many sailors uniting to take part in the competition.
